Sharklet™ Surface Protection
Sharklet Technologies manufactures Sharklet-textured film products that may be converted into surface skins to create bacterial inhibition on high-touch environmental surfaces. The Sharklet films are ideally suited for surfaces in healthcare, public restrooms, points of sale counter tops or other frequently touch bacteria-prone surfaces where bacterial inhibition is desired.
Sharklet-patterned films are a flexible, cost-effective and innovative bacterial inhibition solution that:
Keep surfaces cleaner between cleanings. The Sharklet pattern is always at work and serves as a safety net when hand washing and cleaning protocols fail.
Offers no risk for antimicrobial resistance. It is the Sharklet-textured surface alone that disrupts bacteria’s ability to attach to surfaces, not antimicrobial agents that contribute to the development of “superbugs.”
Defense against multiple strains of bacteria. Sharklet has shown to be effective against many Gram-negative and Gram-positive strains, including clinical isolates, in different media and flow conditions (e.g. Staphylococcus aureus, MRSA, VRE, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and E. coli).
Opportunity to reduce costs with improved hygiene. In the healthcare sector, hospital-acquired infections account for $30.5 billion in excess healthcare costs each year. The cost of these infections is estimated between $8,000 and $15,000 per patient. Sharklet may help reduce the risk of exposure to disease-causing bacteria on surfaces.

Sharklet-textured surfaces are not designed to replace current cleaning and sanitizing processes and procedures. Sharklet-patterned surfaces help reduce levels of bacterial contamination on environmental surfaces in between regular cleanings.
Use of the Sharklet micro-texture is a supplement to and not a substitute for standard infection control practices. While the Sharklet technology has shown to reduce bacterial loads on surfaces between cleanings, users must continue to follow all current infection control practices including those related to cleaning and disinfection of surfaces.
The Sharklet micro-texture technology:
- Offers bacterial inhibition via a 100% natural process
- Is non-toxic and free of any biocides, antimicrobial and antibiotics
- Is safe for people
- Is non-leaching or consumable
- Does not require EPA or Health Canada registration – Sharklet is not a pesticide
